A goal-based crypto robo-advisor

Risk profiling, model portfolios and recurring local-currency investing for first-time investors: ComiBlock's core product, grown to US$400,000 in assets under management.

The problem

In 2021 most crypto products in Africa were exchanges: they handed people an order book and left them to guess. First-time investors wanted what a good adviser gives them, a plan matched to their goals and their appetite for risk, in their own currency.

My role

I founded ComiBlock and ran it as CEO and product lead. The product and its design came from me; a team of four engineers and a designer built it. It grew to US$400,000 in assets under management and over US$420,000 in trade volume, backed by US$25,000 from Expert Dojo at a valuation of around US$3 million and grants from the Celo and Stellar foundations.

How it works

Profile first. A short questionnaire places each investor on a risk spectrum from conservative to aggressive.
Portfolios, not tickers. Each profile maps to a managed model portfolio, from a steady entry-level basket to a blue-chip mix, so investors choose a strategy rather than individual coins.
Invest in naira, on a schedule. Investors fund in local currency and set recurring buys. A scheduled run executes each month's investments through institutional exchange, custody and liquidity partners, and reports performance back.
A book the team could audit. The first fund ledger, tracking units, net asset value and cash, was deliberately simple and operator-auditable, so a small team could reconcile every position by hand before scale justified a heavier system.

The lesson

Simplicity was the product. People did not want more charts; they wanted a sensible plan that ran itself. The engineering followed: fewer choices for the investor, more automation behind the scenes.
